KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee men's basketball program officially announced the signing of four-star basketball prospect D.J. Burns on Wednesday.

Burns is enrolling this week after committing to the Volunteers over South Carolina on Friday.

Recently reclassified to be part of the 2018 recruiting class after originally being in the 2019 class, Burns will fill one of two open scholarships for Tennessee in the upcoming season.

Vols coach Rick Barnes described Burns as a "great addition" in a Wednesday news release announcing the signing.

"We targeted D.J. three years ago because he fits our culture on and off the court," Barnes said in the release. "His mom and dad have prepared him well, and we believe he's got a really bright future."

At 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, Burns could challenge for immediate playing time on a team that returns nearly every key contributor from last season's squad, which won a share of the Southeastern Conference regular-season title.

Burns played for York Preparatory Academy in Rock Hill, South Carolina, during high school and for the Georgia Stars AAU program.

"D.J. allows us to play through the high or low post," Barnes said. "He's a good passer, he can make perimeter shots and he's got excellent footwork. With his attitude and approach, he'll grow quickly and tremendously within our player development program. We're excited about D.J. He's a great addition for us."

Burns will wear No. 32 at Tennessee.

SEC schedule set

Tennessee also announced its SEC opponents for the 2018-19 season.

The Vols will play Florida and Missouri twice in addition to two meetings with each of their permanent league opponents - Kentucky, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Those are all home-and-home series.

Tennessee, which has been ranked as high as No. 3 in some offseason polls, will also play at Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Vols will host Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and Mississippi State.
