Nickajack Road on Lookout Mountain will be closed during the daytime for construction next week, Walker County spokesman Joe Legge said in a news release today.
The county's public works department will shut down the road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday to correct the effects of a mudslide from years ago.
Dirt and rocks piled together on the side of the mountain block a natural water flow. This, in turn, creates a flood of water on the nearby road when it rains.
Legge said workers will rebuild the shoulder of the road after they fix the slide spot.
