Along the Tennessee River and its many rushing tributaries, dams provide flood control, river navigation and hydropower - as well as ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Many of these sites boast beaches, overlooks, hiking trails, fishing piers and more.
This summer, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority, we'll be showcasing some of the state's most action-packed dams. All within a day's drive and fun for the whole family, these destinations are sure to be a dam good time.
The first dam built by a newly formed TVA in 1936, Norris Dam is known for its many hiking and biking trails. The River Bluff Trail is a must-see destination for wildflower enthusiasts each spring.
