Sunny days mean bright rays; invest in quality eye protection

Longer days and sunny weather are back for spring, and sunglasses and proper eye protection are important now more than ever. With that in mind, the Optical Shop at Complete Eye Care in Soddy-Daisy is working to educate patients on the new lens options available to them as well as sharing a great new offer just in time for the season: 30 percent off all Ray Ban sunglasses.

"Oakley Prizms are one of the most popular we have this season, along with Costas and Essilor," said Candace Davis, LDO with Complete Eye Care.

The Oakley Prizm isolates specific environments like mountains, roads, water or athletic fields to reveal details that viewers might otherwise miss. Its technology works by fine-tuning individual acuity to reveal nuances that would be missed by the naked eye.

"Landscapes that would normally be dull are defined better and are more vibrant," Davis explained, noting that the prizm maximizes vision in a full range of settings. "The golf lens would be great for folks that play in our area because they accentuate greens and browns."

Other lens options in the Prizm include shallow water, daily, deep water, road and trail.

Another great option for sun lenses is Essilor, also available in the Optical Shop.

"Essilor lenses offer new solid color options as well as gradient colors that are both effective and attractive," said Davis.

The Essilor solid colors are standard, non-polarized tints, that reduce light intensity and offer UV protection, where clients can be sure that the color is a true tint, and there's no guess work involved when it comes to coloring the lenses. Davis shared that there are a variety of options available for browns, which are great for driving and bringing a good contrast of colors out.

"When the sun is setting, you can see much clearer, and that's also true for the copper and amber shades of lenses," she explained.

For those who are involved in more everyday outdoor activities, grey lenses are ideal. Rose lenses increase contrast of colors, while green filters blue light from phones, screens and tablets and reduces glare. Blue mirrored lenses are perfect for being out on the water, according to Davis.

Breaking into the gradient colors, clients will find these lenses offer more flexibility with the darkest shade being at the top and then transcending to a lighter shade.

"These are good for people who like to read outside that don't want to have to remove their sunglasses, or battle with the changing light as the sun passes behind a cloud," Davis said. "You can still have light, and some people like these for the look just as much as the protection."

"All of our sunglasses come with UV protection regardless of tint," Davis added. "Also new this year are the Adidas frames that are designed for more everyday wear."

The Adidas line, now available in the Optical Shop, feature various styles and designs including some targeted specifically for women that are stylish and sleek. Other lines that ladies may want to take note of include Kate Spade and Coach.

Next up are Costas which continue to be a great option for eye protection during the summer months. Costas 580 (both plastic and glass) offer a wide variety of color filtering tints and color mirrored tints that help achieve three key features: removing yellow light to help enhance green and red, peaking green that helps stimulate the wavelength more than any other shade and absorbing more blue light haze than any other lens.

"Costa 580 is different from the 400 technology because of it's ability to absorb different wavelengths in the visible light spectrum," said Davis.

Not everyone associates sun damage to the eyes, and the staff at Complete Eye Care wants to make sure that everyone is aware of how important protecting their eyes from the sun is, which is also why they are offering some select deals this season. When it comes to the importance of investing in quality eye protection, there are a number of reasons to go all in, but the top include durability and better coverage overall, according to Davis.

"These sunglasses will last longer as they're made of better material and more resistant to damage," she said, "In addition, you not only have more style options to choose from, but you're also assured of UV protection through more protective lens coatings that you can't get from a cheap pair of sunglasses."
