A school-record 46 athletes had 4.0 averages for the semester, and the schools' athletes had an overall GPA of 2.954. The men's runners' GPA tied the UTC semester best set by women's cross country in the spring of 2014. "Congratulations to Coach Andy Meyer and the men's cross country program on their outstanding performance in the classroom," vice chancellor and athletic director Mark Wharton said in a release. "Having over 15 percent of our student-athletes with a 4.0 is definitely something to brag about." Also this week, UTC revealed that the women's basketball, women's cross country and women's tennis teams had perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rate scores for the school years beginning in 2013 and ending in 2017. All three programs are in the top 10 percent of the NCAA in the measurement of player eligibility, retention and graduation. This is the fourth consecutive year with at least three UTC teams in the top 10 percent - and the fifth time overall for women's tennis, the fourth for women's cross country and the second for women's basketball. APR awards began in 2011.
