Former Baylor School golfers Keith Mitchell, Stephan Jaeger and Luke List were in contention after the first day of the Houston Open.

Mitchell was among the first to tee off Thursday morning and finished with a 5-under-par 67. The 26-year-old PGA Tour rookie is coming off a runner-up finish in last weekend's Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic.

"It's a new level of confidence," Mitchell told PGA.com after Thursday's round. "There is no reason to be afraid out here on tour. It's easy to as a rookie, because you're star struck a little bit, but I think I've just gotten a little more comfortable out here."

Mitchell had sole possession of the lead at 6 under early Thursday afternoon before bogeying the 18th hole.

Jaeger is also at 5 under but played only 13 holes before the opening round was called due to darkness. The German-born Jaeger birdied his final two holes before play was called.

List just did finish his 18 holes, birdieing four of the last seven to finish at 4 under.

The fourth Baylor golfer on the PGA Tour, Harris English, opened with a 72.
