Barbara Acuff

Barbara Watt Acuff was born Nov. 12, 1928, to the late William and Pernie Watt, and left to meet her savior on Friday June 15, 2018. She attended Red Bank High School, graduating in 1946 before attending Freed-Hardeman College. She began her teaching career at Harrison Elementary and returned to teaching at Boyd-Buchanan School after marrying and having four girls. In her later years, she worked at P&S School Supply and served as secretary at Red Bank Church of Christ, where she was a member. Barbara was inducted into the Red Bank High School Hall of Fame in 2007. However, her greatest accomplishments were her family and faith. She was married to Max Acuff for 52 years, and together they reared their four girls. She loved teaching ladies classes and doing mission work. Her favorite mission was in the South Pacific. She did missions at various parts of the U.S., St. Thomas, Scotland and England. Many have come to know the Lord because of her strong faith and her obedience to “go into all the world and teach”. She was preceded in death her parents, William and Pernie Watt; husband, Max Acuff and brothers, Alex and William Watt. Survivors are daughters, Nancy Gurganus (Mike), Jan Beckham and (Mark), Jill Reese and (Tommy) all of Chattanooga and Marsha McNatt and (Jed) of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga and her sitter, Angela Parker. We are grateful for the way Angela showed such love and compassion with mom and with us. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Red Bank Church of Christ Mission Fund, 3600 Dayton Blvd, Red Bank, TN 37415. These funds help support South Pacific and Dominican Republic Missions. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Monday in the Chapel. Interment will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415. (423)877-3524 www.lanefh.com
