Mark Pace covers the Chattanooga area's vibrant outdoors scene and environmental news for the Times Free Press. He was the recipient of the Tennessee Wildlife Federation's 2017 Conservation Communicator of the Year award and is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists. He has worked for the paper since Nov. 2015. Previously, he was the lead reporter for the Jersey County Journal and Calhoun News-Herald in the greater St. Louis area where he won first place at the Illinois Press Association for best news reporting and best general news photo. He studied at the Washington Journalism Center and interned as a business and political reporter for The Washington Times. Mark graduated from Lee University in May 2015 with a degree in journalism. He spent two years as the sports editor of the school paper, the Lee Clarion. He is from Dayton, Ohio.
