The Georgia Department of Revenue arrested a Rossville man last week for allegedly failing to report $119,000 he took from his grandmother's bank account.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Tracey Shane Ashley lifted the money from Peggy Ashley's Suntrust Bank account in two transactions last year. His name was also on the account after his grandfather died. Peggy Ashley was 82 at the time.
Tracey Ashley put the money in a seperate bank account. He told investigators he was still using the money for his grandmother's benefit.
In April, while filling out their federal and Georgia join tax returns, Tracey Ashley and his wife, April Lynn Ashley, failed to claim this transaction. They were supposed to include it on their state income tax return. With this added revenue, according to the affidavit the Ashleys should have paid the state $6,200.
Police arrested Tracey Ashley on Friday and April Ashley on Saturday. Both are charged with evasion of income tax worth more than $3,000.
